A clutch is a small handbag often used by women as an accessory to evening wear. Captain Jean-Luc Picard once chided a crewman for using a clutch with a skant. Although wearing women's clothing was no longer grounds for a Section 8 discharge, it was inexcusable to use a clutch with anything other than a dress uniform or a posh frock.
