This was not without precedent: in 2266, Lt. (j.g.) Joe "Happy Smiling People" Tormollen got into a sweat about nothing and killed himself with a butter knife. Of course, this was a suicide and only one person died. And it happened in a redressed briefing room and not a mess hall. Actually, this doesen't apply at all. Sorry.
